“Where is home for you?”

GALERIE HOME

Franken erected a stand for Galerie Home at the Heimtextil trade fair that continuously balances the visitor to and fro between home and far away. Home is the starting point of every journey and the place you go back to full of memories and stories.

Galerie Home is a British designer and producer of wallpaper that manages to surprise us each and every time with beautiful collections that subtly bring together colours, hues and textures from all corners of the world in our homes. The company wanted to have a stand measuring 55 m2 at the international Heimtextil trade fair with a series of ethnically inspired collections. Our account manager Elisabeth went to picturesque Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent to find the unique power of Galerie Home together with the designers of Galerie Home.

The central theme for this collection is Travel: leaving what is familiar behind, discovering new places and experiencing the intense pleasure of returning home with your head full of memories. Regardless of how far or long you may go, the points of departure and return of your journey are always known quantities.

The archetype of leaving and returning forms the pivot of the stand design: a house, a home, where you belong.  Around this we have the different collections, each with its own colours and mood objects. The nearly 5 metre high walls are juxtaposed with regard to each other in such a way that the different collections are given sufficient space to express their look and feel and never invade each other's 'personal space'. The outsides in black paint give the full structure a subdued chic and ensure there is unity between the different modules.

You really need to work hard at a busy trade fair such as Heimtextil to stand out. The Galerie Home stand needed a powerful eye-catcher that would ensure that the attention of passers-by would be caught and held, would stimulate their curiosity a few seconds and would make them stop. We decided to use an extra large version of a portrait of a Native American girl in full (war) regalia. She firmly stares at visitors - a dramatic effect that is reinforced by lighting the photo from behind. The dark, earthy hues of her face, the ethnic motifs in her headgear, the chiaroscuro in her jewellery... It all returns in the Galerie Home collections.
